Balsall Heath Jungle Gardens in February

OUR GARDENS IN FEBRUARY

  • We have prepared the ground to plant a row of fruit trees against a fence at Jakeman School. Soft fruit bushes will grow beside these.

  • Jakeman School now has a trench of raspberry plants in the play area, accessible to the children. We are growing onions, garlic, chard and beans already in this area.

  • At Tindal School we have planted garlic and broad beans and forced some early rhubarb by putting a bucket over the emerging shoots

  • With the help of volunteers we have started planting tubs at 100 Mary St with cabbage, spring onions, garlic and spinach. Our container-grown leek and carrot crops have been good this year.

  • The broad beans planted in November are growing well!

  • Our winter pruning work is now complete and we have even worked as a team at renovating an old cooking apple tree in a member’s garden.
